Mission Statement

YMCA is a Christian-oriented voluntary non-political and non-profit association that strives for a profitable life of young people. The name YMCA stands for “Young Men's Christian Association. The Czech YMCA identifies with the historical mission of the original YMCA.

YMCA is a service and assistance movement. By harmoniously developing the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of a person, it wants to contribute to the healthy, responsible and joyful life of people in society.

YMCA professes the Paris Base of the World Alliance, accepted at its constituent assembly in 1855 in Paris. The Paris Base expresses the YMCA mission and it is still the basis for all its work and the unifying idea of the YMCA world community.

The Paris Basis, as adopted by the delegates of the First World Conference in Paris in 1855:

The Young Men's Christian Associations seeks to unite those young men who, regarding Jesus Christ as their God and Saviour, according to the Holy Scriptures, desire to be his disciples in their faith and in their life, and to associate their efforts for the extension of his Kingdom amongst young men. Any differences of opinion on other subjects, however important in themselves, shall not interfere with the harmonious relations of the constituent members and associates of the World Alliance.

The aim of YMCA is to develop the spirit, soul and body of young people and to give them important values such as responsibility, development of healthy self-confidence, teamwork, sense of fair play, courage, creativity, activity, good character, respect for nature and human work.
